Each year, The History Project presents two awards to community members or organizations in recognition of their commitment and contributions to Boston and Massachusetts' GLBT communities.
Presented annually since 2009 to an individual or organization whose lifetime achievements have had a significant and positive effect on Boston and Massachusetts’ GLBT communities, the HistoryMaker Award's past recipients include Congressman Barney Frank, the Gay Community News Collective, and Mary L. Bonauto, Civil Rights Project Director at Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD).
The History Project is pleased to announce that the recipient of the 2012 HistoryMaker Award is Grace Sterling Stowell.
From her work with the Boston Alliance of GLBT Youth (BAGLY) and her involvement in transgender activist and policy-making with the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC), Grace has had a tremendous influence on generations of GLBT youth throughout Boston and Massachusetts, and around the country through her involvement on a national level in advocating for GLBT youth programs and services. Grace has made a significant and unforgettable contribution to history that is deserving of special recognition.
The Lavender Rhino Award is presented annually to an emerging activist or organization in the Boston area.
The History Project is excited to announce that the 2012 recipient of the Lavender Rhino Award is Boston-based activist and filmaker Chris Mason.
We also invite community members to join the 2012 HistoryMaker Awards Host Committee (either as an individual or as part of a couple). Members of the Host Committee help ensure that each HistoryMaker Awards event is a huge success!
